Most of the questions I get about my art is related to my use of posca pens.
I use posca pens to draw my floral and coral illustrations. Posca pens are permanent paint markers that work well on many different surfaces, including yupo paper.
When working with alcohol inks and posca markers, it is useful to keep a few things in mind.
Firstly, the posca pen will not work well on the alcohol ink unless the ink has dried completely. I often let my alcohol ink paintings dry overnight before drawing on them.
If you do not have the patience to wait that long, try to dry your ink painting with a hair dryer or a heat gun. Be careful not to position the heat gun too close to the painting, as the heat can melt the yupo paper (which is made from plastic) if the heat gun gets too close.
Secondly, the posca pens can sometimes take the colour of the underlying ink. This seems to happen when I have used Ranger Alcohol Inks. To avoid the pen lines taking the colour of the underlying ink, you can try to varnish your ink painting before using the posca pens. Let the varnish dry overnight and then draw your design with the posca pen.
Do not forget to also spray the painting with a varnish (preferably one with UV protection) after applying the posca pen.
